I’m going to be cooking simple healthy food, including a few sweet indulgences. My recipes will be vegetarian and, since we don’t eat dairy products, a lot of them will be vegan as well. I believe in eating whole foods – that is, foods that are as close to their natural form as possible. I will be sharing thoughts and stories, most involving food and recipes, but not always.
My husband, Brian, is my technical guru and recipe tester. We live in Halifax, Nova Scotia with our friendly Springer Spaniel, Austin. We have 5 children and 3 grandchildren.
The Lovin’ Forkful was launched in July 2014 and was inspired by my passion for healthy eating and good food. I love to cook and have always been interested in health and nutrition. I am also big on preparing my own meals. It’s hard to know what goes into your food unless you make it yourself. I love to create a delicious healthy meal, serve it to people I love and nourish ourselves in every way.
I am a taste and feel type of cook, as was my mother. Please alter my recipes based on your own tastes – a little more of this, a little less of that. Cooking is art, not science.
Our youngest son has juvenile diabetes, so I know how important it is to know the grams of carbohydrates, fiber, etc. in a recipe. This knowledge is invaluable for anyone with dietary concerns. I will, therefore, provide nutritional analysis of my recipes. I obtain the nutritional values from a site called caloriecount.about.com.
Please know that I am not a dietitian or a nutritionist. The information on The Lovin’ Forkful is based on my research and my personal experience only. It should not be taken as prescriptive advice. If you’re seeking a formal medical diagnosis or prescription, or if you are contemplating any major dietary change, I suggest you speak with a healthcare provider.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you come back often.
Wishing you health & happiness,
